I’ve often written of my love of Star Wars. If you’ve known me for longer than 5 minutes then you know this about me. The original 1977 film changed my life. Star Wars is a very personal thing for me but I know no one really knows fully why so I figured it was time I said. When I was 3 going on 4 I saw Star Wars in the theatre and it was the first time I became fully aware of the moving image. I immediately became invested in what was happening on the screen. The profound images of a galaxy far, far away with characters and visuals unlike anything I could imagine. In those moments I fell in love with movies and with visual storytelling. Everything was different for me. I became much more interested when I watched other movies or even TV shows on television. The way […]
For anyone that knows me it is no secret my love of, and indeed geek love of, all things Star Wars. When I was 3 going on 4 my parents took me to see ‘Star Wars‘ and while they may have thought it was just something to do that day with my sister and I they had no idea how much it changed their son forever. When the Rebel Blockade Runner (Alderaan Cruiser) shot across the screen and then followed by that enormous Star Destroyer coming overhead I was no longer the same. Immediately I fell in love with the moving image. I watched movies differently. I watched television differently. I played with my toys differently. My eye became the camera. I would hold toys close to my eye to mimic close up shots and far away for wide shots. Eventually setting up my own movies in my head with […]
Usually when I go some place I have it set on what I am doing. So a huge mob of people breaking out into a dance number is not exactly something I would be too excited about. However, if this kind would happen I would consider it worthy because if it speaks to my geekdom then it is cool.
On the Blu-ray of the ‘Star Wars’ films that was released last year there was an extra disc that included some of the older documentaries which I love. I remember them as a kid. There was one made for each film of the original trilogy with C-3PO and R2-D2 hosting the first. Mark Hamill hosting the second. Carrie Fischer the third. However, there was one that was made right after ‘Return Of The Jedi’ that was about making all three of the films. While the information might seem redundant after the inclusion of the three which concentrate on each individual film there is still stuff in it that is not in the others. Plus the nostalgia reason alone is enough to hopefully warrant the inclusion of ‘From Star Wars To Jedi The Making Of A Saga‘ on a future release. It’s a fan favorite and one that many of us […]
Happy 35th Anniversary to the film that changed my life forever. What can be said that I haven’t said already. I won’t ramble on this time but simply say thank you for what you have done for me ‘Star Wars‘! Some might consider this sacrilege but here is the trailer for the Special Edition re-release from the 20th anniversary in 1997. I love this trailer. And the one vintage documentary (missing from the recent Blu-ray release unfortunately) that fans like myself love so much. ‘From Star Wars To Jedi The Making Of A Saga‘. How many times did I watch this as a kid.
This is just too brilliant. Most of the Hoth battle from ‘The Empire Strikes Back’ in Legos.
I just picked this up on Blu-ray (that also came with a Lego junior Han Solo figure – Yay!) and it was hilarious. I hope there will be more because it is just as fun as the Lego Star Wars games.
