So recently I got the chance to see one of my all time favorite films, Carol Reed’s The Third Man , in the theatre in the new 4K restoration. I’ve been lucky enough to see it before on the big screen but this was special as it has been restored in a new digital presentation. While there have been some really great versions of the film over the years, including the 50th anniversary and the now out of print Criterion Blu-ray, but to see it restored in full 4K is quite an experience. The Music Box Theatre in Chicago is doing a special Orson Welles retrospective throughout the summer showing several of his films. Universal released on Blu-ray a collection featuring some of their famous classic horror films including ‘Dracula‘, ‘Frankenstein‘, The Wolf Man‘, The Creature From The Black Lagoon‘, and more. I recently picked this up and am looking forward to diving into it. Below is a video on some of the restoration done on the original ‘Dracula’. I’m a sucker for restoration videos. I find it fascinating.
This is probably old news and … well, it is old news because the video is from 8 months ago but I just saw it and I wanted to share it. I like seeing videos on films being restored. I’m fascinated by the process. I didn’t know that when Blue Underground restored Lucio Fulci’s ‘Zombie’ last year that they made a little video about it. I love that movie so much. It holds a special place in my heart. Seeing it restored is amazing and seeing the video on it being restored is very cool. And if you haven’t picked up the Blu-ray of ‘Zombie’ then you should. And the trailer.
I love seeing films restored. The process I find fascinating. Plus seeing the final restorations is just incredible. Universal is restoring a lot of their films and they released this video of some of the work they’re doing. Cool trailer for their anniversary.
