George Romero Film Trip

Posted on

Some friends and I decided to make a trip to Pittsburgh and go check out some locations used in various George A. Romero (one of my idols) films. The main one being the Monroeville Mall where ‘Dawn Of The Dead‘ was made. A lot of these locations are changing so I wanted to see them before most of the recognizable things were gone. Going from Chicago to Pittsburgh is a good 8 hours so the drive was long but once we got there it was hard to hold in the excitement. We stayed at a hotel about 15 minutes from the mall. My room for the weekend. Saturday was mainly the mall. So most of the day was spent at the Monroeville Mall. I tried finding screenshots to try and match up as best I could some of the places. Day Six – What is your favorite vampire movie? FRIGHT NIGHT (1985) d: Tom Holland I absolutely love ‘Fright Night’. It has a good sense of humor but never in a way that overpowers the horror. When a high school student Charlie (Williams Ragsdale) discovers his new neighbor Jerry Dandridge (Chris Sarandon) is a vampire he quickly finds he is alone since no one believes him including his girlfriend Amy (Amanda Bearse) and best friend Evil Ed (Stephen Geoffreys). Desperate he even seeks out the help of a TV host, the fearless vampire killer Peter Vincent (Roddy McDowell). Now if you’re wondering why this one over so many other great vampire films (and there are many) the answer is simple. The question is which is your favorite not which you think is the best one. If there is a vampire film I have watched the most and love to watch […]

Day Two – What was the last horror film you saw in the theatre? NIGHT OF THE CREEPS (1986) d: Fred Dekker I admit I don’t go see too many new movies. Not as often as I used to. I go to the movies a lot but most of the time it’s to see older films on the big screen. So the last movie I saw on the big screen was a midnight showing of Fred Dekker’s horror comedy ‘Night Of The Creeps’. A film I have always enjoyed and I think people didn’t know what to make of it when it was first released but I remember renting it as a kid when it first came out on video and loved it. I was lucky enough to meet Fed Dekker a few years ago at an event here, Terror In The Aisles. A really great guy!
