When There Is No More Room In Hell … I Go To The Mall

Posted on

This month seems to be all about my top three favorite films. It started with May 4th which has become national Star Wars Day (May The Fourth Be With You). In the middle of the month I saw for the first time a really amazing documentary on TV on the making of ‘The Godfather’. The month ends with my friends and I taking a trip to Pittsburgh to visit the Monroeville Mall. Also known to fans all over as the ‘Dawn Of The Dead’ mall. Granted it may just be a regular mall to most people (and it is) but to horror fans over the world it was the setting to arguably one of the greatest horror films (and in my opinion greatest films in general) ever made. I will be in half professional mode as I am packing up my photography gear so I can photograph the mall and […]

New Reel In The Works

Posted on

Sort of long overdo but I am finally working on a new reel for myself. The last one I did was like three years ago. As soon as it is done I will post it. Plus I will be recompressing and adding videos to the Video section. Trailers, clips, etc. I’m pretty excited for the new reel. Not only for it to showcase my work (and hopefully get more) but also because I am doing something new with it. I don’t want it to be the usual here are some shots over music. I hope it works as I think it might. Plus there will be some news regarding the upcoming short film. I’m keeping info a little on the low end right now but there will be updates very soon. Also hopefully some short documentary projects that I have been wanting to do for a long time. If anyone […]

What is one of your favorite film epics? BEN-HUR (1959) D: William Wyler This has always been one of my favorite epics on many levels. The story of Judah Ben-Hur which goes through the story of Rome in the time of Jesus Christ with the Jesus aspects sort of a side story until the third act which also makes it one of the best Biblical epics as well. On a scale like very few (if any) films ever made it can be almost jaw dropping the mere scope of the film. Plus it was shot in MGM Camera 65 which gives it an aspect ratio of 2.76:1 (your standard widescreen film is 2.40:1). Winner of 11 Academy Awards including Best Picture the film works on several levels least of which is the fact that despite its very long running time (222 minutes) it is never boring. Plus it has one […]

What is one of your favorite films from the 1920’s? METROPOLIS (1927). D: Fritz Lang There are films that are almost so incredible they sort of defy words. On its own ‘Metropolis’ is a wonderful science fiction film with imagery that is stunning and powerful even 86 years later. When you take into account when the film was made, especially compared to other films during the same period, and the incredible scope of the film plus putting the time in which the film was made into consideration from a filmmaking standpoint, it is almost hard not to watch the film with your eyes wide and your mouth open. The complexity of the film is rich and its set pieces and iconic images have been burned into our brains before having seen it because they have become a part of film history having been used (or offshoots and homages of them) […]

Jaws Coming To Blu-ray In 2012

Posted on

I just read over at Blu-ray.com that one of my all time favorite movies ‘Jaws‘ is finally coming to Blu-ray on (tentatively) August 14th of next year. While I think coming out closer to the 4th of July is more fitting I am just happy it is finally coming out. And I think this goes well with my last post on Steven Spielberg. Now here’s hoping to get ‘Raiders Of The Lost Ark‘ on Blu-ray next year too …

Day Eleven – What is your favorite horror comedy? AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON (1981) d: John Landis This was a little hard to settle on but I stand by my choice. There are a lot of horror comedies. So many in fact that this might be the largest selection of a subgenre ever. But the question doesn’t lie with which one I feel is the best but which one is my favorite. Definitely one of my favorites is ‘An American Werewolf In London’. The story of two guys camping through Europe only while one night on the Moors they encounter a werewolf. One of them is bitten and so begins his transcending into becoming a werewolf as it gets closer to the next full moon. I sort of saw it for the first time when it actually came out. I say sort of because I didn’t see the whole […]
