To Infinity And Beyond

I haven’t posted much lately but not from a lack of things happening but more from there being a lot of things happening. The first half of the year was definitely an all over the place couple of months. The main thing is the new feature film is in Pre-Production. Locations have been (and are still) being scouted. I’ve been doing camera tests to test out different looks. I’ve been using the Sony FS7, which will be the main camera, and the Sony A7RII recording to the Atomos Assassin in Pro Res, which will be a B camera. Everything is being shot in 4K and while the file sizes are huge (going to need a lot of hard drives) it is amazing. I have been waiting years for the time when I could shoot 4K on my own without having to rent very expensive cameras. There are a few more […]

Birthday And Update

Posted on

I know I haven’t been updating too much lately but because there have been a lot of things going on I haven’t had much time. I will be doing more blog posts and also more videos on everything. I will list a couple key things for now. First, I just had another birthday. So there was that. As I mentioned before I did get a new camera, the Sony FS7 4K camera. As always is the case with a new camera there is a learning curve but since I’m coming from a Sony camera to another it isn’t that big. However, the recording format is new for me so there is some learning there. Mainly how to shoot in it correctly and how to work with it in post production. I’ll be getting into that more soon. I have to say it is definitely the best camera I have ever […]

Update For March

Posted on

I haven’t posted in awhile but things have gotten a little hectic. There was work that needed attention plus some family issues not to mention some car problems and even an ear infection. Before you know it several weeks have passed. Where are things now? I am getting myself mentally prepared for the new script which I will start writing any day now. It’s hard for some people to understand but I compare it to an actor getting ready for a role. I need to really feel the story I’m creating so I sit with it for awhile until I can access it at a moments notice. I find music to listen to while I write. This is important for me. I look for music that creates the mood I’m needing. When I put that music on I am immediately transplanted right into the world I have created and can […]

Lighting Test For New Short Film

Posted on

It’s now official I am a couple weeks away from shooting my next short film. Details will be revealed but this will be the first film I’ve written, aside from just directing and shooting, in awhile. I have written other things but most of the films I’ve done in the last couple years are ones that were written by other people. As is evident in the picture I am going for a very film noir look with a warm overtone. It’s an aesthetic I’ve always loved but have rarely been able to do when doing other people’s films. I haven’t done a film project (or any project really) in a very long time that was completely mine. Maybe since I made my feature film Distortion. It is actually a bit more nerve wracking since it is more me than with the other projects but that is also the exciting part. […]

New Year And Stuff

Posted on

A little behind in updates but this has turned into the busiest January I think I’ve ever had. It’s a new year so I hope everyone is getting it off well. Despite these insanely cold days. I directed and shot the short film Nose Hair And Peanuts written by and starring Mike Pusateri whom I have known for several years. He was in my film Distortion plus we also did the the short film The Interrogation together as well. I’ll have some more details on that soon. I went to New York for two days for a work shoot. I hadn’t been there since I was a kid. There wasn’t enough time to see anything but I was able to go to the mother of all camera stores, B&H. How I wish Chicago had a store even remotely like it. We needed to pick up some lights and I was […]

Pre-Production Starts On New Short Film

Posted on

In the works for a couple of weeks but it is now official I will be making a new short film. There will be two that I will be doing in the upcoming months of ones I wrote but this first one is written by Mike Pusateri whom I have worked with before on both DISTORTION and THE INTERROGATION. Mike wrote this and will star in and produce as well. Really excited to work with Mike again. Plus super excited to be back to making narratives again. I love my work but I a miss making films. It’s been too long. I’ll update the progress and will have more details soon.
