The day I hoped would never come has indeed come to be. The passing of one of the most influential people on my life, George A. Romero. When I started film school the teacher went around the room and asked everyone who inspired them the most to become filmmakers. At the time it was the in thing to say Martin Scorsese so most people said him and a few answers were interesting if not obvious. I was the standout because I said George Romero. I have a long list of filmmakers that have inspired me over the years but when it comes to the ones that literally shaped me that list is very short. I love John Ford. The man made some of the best films ever committed to celluloid. He also didn’t have time to sit back and dissect everything. He kept moving forward with his career. In one of the more famous quotes that most filmmakers and film buffs hear about from him is the infamous answer to a question about how he filmed a particular scene while being interviewed by a young Peter Bogdanovich. John Ford’s answer is, much like his films, perfect. “With a camera.”

Testing the Kessler Crane Pocket Jib Traveler

I got the new Pocket Jib Traveler from Kessler Crane and was able to test it out a little over the weekend. With winter slowly starting to dissipate in Chicago it has been too cold to go out and shoot stuff so it was nice to have some decent weather. The Pocket Jib Traveler (PJT) is perfect for someone like me. I like to remain mobile and to keep my gear as portable as possible but not limit the shots I can get. That’s why when things like the pocket dolly, or slider, came out and you could do small side to side dolly moves it added movement to your shots that you could only get before carrying a large dolly with you on shoots.
