Lytro – No More Camera Focus?

Philip Bloom wrote a piece at his amazing blog (link here)on this new camera system from Lytro. It records not some but all of the light that is there creating a full focus image which then allows you to choose after the fact what you want to be in focus. Plus the file it creates can be sent to other people and they can change it. Amazing! Here are some examples. Go ahead and click at different parts of the images to change the focus. Recently I purchased a new still camera. I weighed different options but I am partial to Panasonic. We all have our brands. So I looked into and really liked what I read about their still cameras. I have been using their prosumer video cameras for years starting with the DVX100, then the HVX200, and now the HPX170. I am upgrading from a Sony still camera which was a good camera but it was time to upgrade. So after much research I decided on the Panasonic GH2. While still learning all of the in’s and out’s of the camera you can expect many different posts examining different parts coming in the near future. Both photography and video (it shoots HD). Zacuto Great Camera Shootout Episode One

My old boss Steve Weiss of Zacuto is making a massive camera shootout video covering all different kinds of cameras to test them out under different conditions. Part one has just been released. Here is the descrirption: In the most scientific camera comparison to date, “The Great Camera Shootout 2011: a documentary of the Single Chip Camera Evaluation (SCCE)” premieres with Episode 1: “The Tipping Point.” The first episode of the 3-part web series examines three SCCE Tests: The Dynamic Range Test, The Under Exposure Test and The Over Exposure Test.
