Music Box Massacre 7

Every October I go to the Music Box Massacre. A 24 hour movie marathon of horror films. There is always a guest or two in attendance but it’s a celebration of movies on the big screen. All original prints and a theatre filled with almost 750 people. I always have a great time and this year was no different. I get to hang out with friends and see all kinds of movies. Some for the first time while others just the first time on the big screen. This year’s guest was none other than the “Godfather Of Gore” Herschell Gordon Lewis. The filmmaker behind ‘Blood Feast‘, ‘Two Thousand Maniacs‘, and the film they showed this year ‘The Wizard Of Gore‘. Highlights for me at this year’s event was seeing the original ‘Halloween‘ for the first time on the big screen screen. Plus seeing ‘Poltergeist‘, Lucio Fulci’s ‘Gates Of Hell‘ (aka […]

For the third time in a year I had the awesome pleasure of seeing one of my all time favorite films on the big screen, Martin Scorsese’s ‘Taxi Driver’. I have seen the film many times but for its 20th anniversary I got the chance to see it on the big screen for the first time. That was also the first time I ever went to The Music Box Theatre which is my favorite theatre. That was back in 1996. In 2010 the Gene Siskel Theatre had a special showing of it. This showing happen to be on August 17, my birthday. What better way to spend my birthday? It was an old print full of scratches and tears and it was faded but it was amazing. I hadn’t seen the film in a few years and it was almost like watching it again. Completely exhilarating. Reminding me why this […]

This past weekend, at my favorite theatre The Music Box,¬† I got to meet two very cool people. The first was Harry Shearer who was showing his new documentary on Katrina ‘The Big Uneasy‘. He did a Q&A and also did an intro to ‘This Is Spinal Tap’. I must confess I had never seen it before. I know. Shame on me. But what better way to see a film for the first time than on the big screen? So I feel it is ok. Harry Shearer doing his Q&A for his film ‘The Big Uneasy’. The following night I got to meet the one and only John Waters. He is part of a new book “The Film That Changed My Life” which interviews 30 different directors and what film was the one that changed their life. For John Waters it was ‘The Wizard Of Oz’ so they showed that […]
