This past weekend, at my favorite theatre The Music Box,¬† I got to meet two very cool people. The first was Harry Shearer who was showing his new documentary on Katrina ‘The Big Uneasy‘. He did a Q&A and also did an intro to ‘This Is Spinal Tap’. I must confess I had never seen it before. I know. Shame on me. III Slices Of Life Signing

This past Tuesday I was lucky enough to make it out to the signing at FYE of the independent film ‘III Slices Of Life‘ which has just come out on DVD. Local Chicago filmmaker Anthony Sumner made a great film with very little money in the tradition of one of my favorite films ‘Creepshow’. Several cast members were there too including my friend Deneen Melody who is one of the leads. She had a cameo in my film ‘Distortion’ and is in my new film ‘Dark Light’. Beef Stroganoff

Another recipe because cooking is awesome. Here’s a meal you can make pretty quickly and relatively inexpensively. There are several different versions out there but this is my recipe for Beef Stroganoff. Things you’ll need: Sirloin Strips Egg Noodles Butter/Margarine/Oil Onion Red Wine Ginger Flour Sour Cream Salt (optional) Pepper (optional) So first you’re going to figure out how many people you’re feeding. I was cooking for three adults which is why there is quite a bit. You usually estimate about 1/2 pound of sirloin strips per person. Unless you love beef. Like me. So I have two pounds of sirloin strips total. But on average 1/2 pound per person is plenty. Take some red wine, and this is for cooking purposes so you don’t need to use good wine like I did, and pour some over the meat in a large bowl. Not a lot of wine. Just enough […]

I am lucky enough to work in a field that is at least close enough to what I want to do for a living so I’m not pulling out my hair. I’ve done the office job. Had my cubicle and fancy title (Vendor Logistics Manager). While the job security was nice the fact was it sucked everything out of me. You keep telling yourself that the moment you get home you’ll work on that script, prep for that movie, but you never do. You get home and you are just too tired to do anything. You want to just do nothing. So when I took the chance to turn my life around it was very problematic as it cost me not months but years of financial security and have been living the life of a poor starving artist. The amazing people at Criterion have been releasing videos they call the “Three Reasons” series which gives three reasons why a particular film they have released is worth checking out. They are a lot of fun and their latest one is for what is arguably one of the best films ever made, Akira Kurosawa’s ‘Seven Samurai‘. The video on the Criterion website.

Happy Memorial Day everyone!! A special shout out to our fallen heroes everywhere and throughout history. With family members having served I am very proud and supportive of our military. Please be sure to help a cause that helps our men and women in uniform. There are several out there. One I support is USA Cares. Another thing that comes to mind on Memorial Day weekend is the kick off of the summer movie season. Haven’t seen anything new so I have no comment there. But I did go to a midnight showing of John Carpenter’s ‘Big Trouble In Little China‘ which was beyond awesome. Any chance to see any John Carpenter film on the big screen is a real treat.
