Lytro – No More Camera Focus?

Posted on

Philip Bloom wrote a piece at his amazing blog (link here)on this new camera system from Lytro. It records not some but all of the light that is there creating a full focus image which then allows you to choose after the fact what you want to be in focus. Plus the file it creates can be sent to other people and they can change it. Amazing! Here are some examples. Go ahead and click at different parts of the images to change the focus. For more info go to Philip Bloom’s blog or the Lytro website. Both links above.

Apple Final Cut Pro X Released (Updated)

Apple has finally released their new and revamped version of Final Cut Pro. As a long time user of it (going back to version 1.o) I have been looking forward to this for some time. Now the main issue with this version is that it was built from the bottom up. This is not an upgrade to previous versions. It’s an all new version. They talked to a lot of professional editors to know what they wanted in an editing program. Let’s hope it worked. As with most things Apple it’s wise not to jump in from the get go. It’s best to wait a bit. See what others think. With their new gadgets always wait for version 2. With software wait until there is an update. In this case I’d wait for version X.1. Which will probably be out in a few months. I must say though after checking […]

Filmic Pro App

I love my iPhone and I love me some applications. Here is one video app that has some very cool features. It lets you shoot at different frame rates. Not slow motion though but you can do fast motion. However my interest was that it can shoot 24p. Granted, I’m sure it’s just a 3:2 pulldown but it looks great. Especially considering it’s on my iPhone. Plus you can lock in the exposure and white balance so it’s not constantly changing. And it has letterboxing so you can shoot in normal 16:9 or 1.85:1 or even (yeah!) 2.35:1. Very cool. And naturally my video below showcases almost none of these cool features. I will be doing some better tests with it. To give you more options when shooting video then you should get this app. I think it is pretty sweet. Visit the website here. Here is my video of […]

Harry And John

This past weekend, at my favorite theatre The Music Box,¬† I got to meet two very cool people. The first was Harry Shearer who was showing his new documentary on Katrina ‘The Big Uneasy‘. He did a Q&A and also did an intro to ‘This Is Spinal Tap’. I must confess I had never seen it before. I know. Shame on me. But what better way to see a film for the first time than on the big screen? So I feel it is ok. Harry Shearer doing his Q&A for his film ‘The Big Uneasy’. The following night I got to meet the one and only John Waters. He is part of a new book “The Film That Changed My Life” which interviews 30 different directors and what film was the one that changed their life. For John Waters it was ‘The Wizard Of Oz’ so they showed that […]
