Early Video Games And Arcades

I have a fascination with the birth of the video game and the arcade. I think because I was around for part of it (even though I was a wee one), mainly the early 80’s arcade boom and the Atari craze, that it has a nostalgia thing for me. Also because video games today are such a huge part of our lives that it’s fascinating to see the dawn of it.

Back in the early days of the G4 channel there were a lot of great shows. The channel today is, in my opinion, become a little too Mtv in that it has lost some of its original intent. In the beginning, about ten years ago, it was completely video game based and their shows were pretty great. Albeit very low on production value as it was obvious they didn’t have major backing yet. But what they lacked in pizzazz they made up for in content. My favorite show on there was called “Icons” and I would watch it whenever it was on. They did several on different aspects on the early videos games and the arcades. While the channel changed luckily this show didn’t disappear completely. Have to love the fans because several episodes are on YouTube. And for anyone interested I will post a few favorites.

Here is one on the arcade boom of the early 80’s.

This one is on Atari.

This one is on the crash in the early to mid 80’s of video games.

One of my favorites on Pac-Man.
