As some of you know one of my hobbies is collecting movie posters. Specifically for movies that have special meaning for me. One of my latest additions is a very cool one. I love the Japanese film BATTLE ROYALE released in 2000 but not released in the U.S. until 2011 on video. I first saw it in 2003 or 2004 thanks to a UK DVD release which was playable on Region 1 players. I had heard of the film since its release so the desire to see it was pretty high and the film did not disappoint.
Memorabilia for it is a little hard to come by since it never was released in the U.S.A. theatrically outside of some film festival showings. So the only thing, in relation to film posters, are foreign releases including a cool U.K. quad poster and naturally from its Japanese release which is where I lucked out all of these years later.
Bidding on posters is hard. Outside of the fear that a seller is passing off a reprint instead of an original is tough enough so when you find a reputable seller you tend to stick with them. One of my most trusted sellers had a Japanese release poster. While interest was there from others it slipped under the radar I think since normally these types of things go for a lot more than I paid (thankfully). Not only is it an original poster but it was part of a limited run of the poster on a reflective foil like surface paper. It’s hard to photograph so I took another photo with light reflecting on it but no matter what I can’t showcase how cool the poster is in person.
