Halloween Horror Movie Challenge Day Twenty-Five And Happy Halloween

Posted on

Happy Halloween everyone!! I hope everyone has a great and fun one whether you’re going out or staying in watching movies. So many options. Though I do have one I always watch. Hence, the last post for the Halloween Horror Movie Challenge. Day Twenty-Five – What is a horror movie you watch every Halloween? HALLOWEEN (1978) d: John Carpenter This one may be on the nose and even obvious but it is my yearly tradition. Every Halloween for the last 14 years (sporadic before that but almost for even ten years prior to that) I watch John Carpenter’s HALLOWEEN. I always end the night with it. So I start watching it between 11pm and midnight so it rings out the holiday for me. For the record there was one year in the last 14 that I didn’t watch it but only because I got to see it on the big […]

Halloween Horror Movie Challenge Day Twenty-Four

I admit it. I won’t be catching up with these. There were too many amazing things happening this month. I will just speed ahead to the last two for today and tomorrow. So it’ll be just shy of a 31 day movie challenge. But a 25 day movie challenge has a nice ring to it. Right? Er, right? Anyway … onto today’s post! Day Twenty-Four – What is your favorite horror movie of all time? DAWN OF THE DEAD (1978) d: George A. Romero It is no surprise if you know me, or have even been reading this blog for awhile, to know that my favorite horror film, and indeed one of my top three favorite films (along with STAR WARS and THE GODFATHER), is George Romero’s DAWN OF THE DEAD. The second film in the series of Romero zombie films is just an amazing film from start to finish. […]

Day Twenty-Three – Who is your favorite horror movie director? JOHN CARPENTER Everyone knows of my idolization of both George A. Romero and John Carpenter. Picking one is hard. I decided on Carpenter for this post because for the sake of Halloween he has the more diverse horror resume. Much like Romero, I grew up on Carpenter’s films and has had a lot of his style creep into my own. His influence on me is very apparent. I’ve always responded to his slower style and I don’t mean that in a bad way. He was influenced a lot from westerns (a big Howard Hawkes and John Ford fan) where you go fast when needed. I’ve always loved that. It makes each frame all the more important. He was also very involved in so many aspects of his films including writing, producing, editing, and most notably the music. He has done […]

Day Twenty-Two – What is the scariest horror movie you have ever seen? THE EXORCIST (1973) d: William Friedkin It just so happens to also be my second favorite horror film (the first will be revealed soon though if you know me at all or read this blog then you already know what it is) so this pick was easy. Maybe it’s because I was raised Catholic, and my faith does involve believing in both God and the devil, so THE EXORCIST gets under my skin unlike any other film. I think everyone knows the story so my recapping it is a bit unnecessary. William Friedkin’s approach to the film, delivering it in a completely straightforward way, gives it a very gritty power and his style gives it a realistic feel. It’s frankness in its depiction of the possession is what makes it so frighting. Showing innocence so corrupted by […]

Halloween Horror Movie Challenge Day Twenty-One

This past week I was a guest on the BladtCast podcast talking Halloween and horror movies (which you can listen to HERE) and one of the things that came up was this question so it fits perfectly for the Halloween Horror Movie Challenge. Day Twenty-One – What is a film you really like but is hard to recommend to someone else? A SERBIAN FILM (2010) d: Srdjan Spasojevic This is one of those films that in some ways is really an amazing film but I can’t recommend that anyone watch it. Unless I know for sure you can handle it. I first saw this on the big screen at a rare screening (at a really great Horror Society event) at like 2am and it was unlike anything I had seen. A very in your face film that is as graphic as a film can be in its depiction of violence. […]

Halloween Horror Movie Challenge Day Twenty

I had accidentally missed a day so the last couple days were off but that has been corrected. So back on track. Day Twenty – What is your favorite way a horror killer has been disposed of? FRIDAY THE 13TH THE FINAL CHAPTER (1984) d: Joseph Zito WARNING: This post contains spoilers! I admit I am a huge Jason fan. The recent release of the CRYSTAL LAKE MEMORIES documentary was like finding gold to me. While it did not end up being Jason’s final chapter (though it was the last time Jason was actually scary) my all time favorite death of a killer, from any film, is in FRIDAY THE 13TH THE FINAL CHAPTER. After seeing THE PROWLER producers were eager to sign on director Joseph Zito to kill off the iconic Jason Voorhees. Having worked with Tom Savini on THE PROWLER where Savini did the make up effects, Zito […]

Day Nineteen – What is your favorite horror themed TV show? TALES FROM THE DARKSIDE (1983 – 1988) There have been actually quite a few horror TV series over the years. They’re still going strong with the success of THE WALKING DEAD, AMERICAN HORROR STORY, and SUPERNATURAL to name but a few. I’d have to say that the original THE TWILIGHT ZONE was probably the best but for this I decided to go with a more personal favorite with TALES FROM THE DARKSIDE. As a kid I remember every Sunday night was TALES FROM THE DARKSIDE, an anthology TV series like THE TWILIGHT ZONE where every week is a different story. I always dreaded going to school so Sunday nights meant school the next day. The one highlight was staying up to watch an episode where even the opening (which is below) scared the crap out of me. The episodes […]
