Some new Vague Ramblings episodes added lately including a new thing I’m adding to the channel called “Pick Ups” (or #VRPickUps which I’ll use on social media) which will be about recent picks up with movies, games, posters, or anything that falls into my possession. Plus there is one on my yearly visit to Flashback Weekend.
I know I haven’t been updating too much lately but because there have been a lot of things going on I haven’t had much time. I will be doing more blog posts and also more videos on everything. I will list a couple key things for now. First, I just had another birthday. So there was that. As I mentioned before I did get a new camera, the Sony FS7 4K camera. As always is the case with a new camera there is a learning curve but since I’m coming from a Sony camera to another it isn’t that big. However, the recording format is new for me so there is some learning there. Mainly how to shoot in it correctly and how to work with it in post production. I’ll be getting into that more soon. I have to say it is definitely the best camera I have ever […]
I went to the Drive-In Massacre which is the second year this was done at the McHenry Drive-In. Three horror films shown at the drive-in with a special guest. Last year it was The Monster Squad with director Fred Dekker in person, Lucio Fulci’s Zombie, and Sleepaway Camp. This year the films were The Return Of The Living Dead with Linnea Quigley in person, the new 4K restoration of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, and Creepshow. I brought my Sony A7 with me and grabbed some shots with my Voigtlander 40mm F/1.4 lens. One thing I did was take a couple of long exposure shots with my wide angle lens.
I ended the month of June going to the Days Of The Dead convention in Indianapolis. My first Days Of The Dead was last year in Chicago. I’m also planning to go to the Chicago one later this year. It’s a great convention and I always have a fun time with friends and meeting all of the amazing guests. This show had two great reunions which were for the Clive Barker film Nightbreed (which was perfect since the new Blu-ray of the director’s cut is coming out in October) and the Kevin Tenney film Night Of The Demons. Plus a lot of people I’ve always wanted to meet including Nancy Allen (Carrie, Dressed To Kill, Blow Out, Robocop) and P.J. Soles (Carrie, Halloween, Rock N’ Roll High School, Stripes) and John Heard (Big, On The Yard, Heaven Help Us, Cat People, C.H.U.D.). Since we were there the same weekend we […]
I went to the first Walker Stalker Convention which is mainly a convention dedicated to the TV series The Walking Dead. I’m a fan of the show but my real desire to go to the convention, at least for one day (I ended up going on Sunday), was to meet two guests specifically. One of the greatest make up effects artists in the industry is Greg Nicotero of KNB Effects who not only supervises the effects of The Walking Dead, and is one of the executive producers, plus has directed several episodes, but has done the effects for so many films over the last 29 years. I have wanted to meet him for the longest time. He started out as a protege of the great Tom Savini. One of his first films assisting Tom was George Romero’s Day Of The Dead. I couldn’t pass the chance to meet him and […]
Sorry for the lack of posts but things have been busy. But even then still no excuse so a couple of posts coming. In August I not only had a birthday but not one but two conventions in the same weekend. My main one was Flashback Weekend which is a horror film convention. Across the street from the hotel where it was at is the convention center which had Wizard World. I wasn’t originally going to go to Wizard World (mainly because it is really expensive) but they announced a guest that I could not say no to. One of my idols, Robert Rodriguez. So I went for him. Since I was going for him I figured I should get what I’ve also wanted for a long time now. A picture with the man himself, Stan Lee. Robert Rodriguez was just as amazing as I hoped he would be. He […]
