Some new Vague Ramblings episodes added lately including a new thing I’m adding to the channel called “Pick Ups” (or #VRPickUps which I’ll use on social media) which will be about recent picks up with movies, games, posters, or anything that falls into my possession. Plus there is one on my yearly visit to Flashback Weekend.
Apparently, I’m late to the news desk but G4, the channel that mainly covered video games, is changing into a different kind of network with a much less, if any, emphasis on gaming. I think the reason why I’m late on this is because I actually haven’t watched the channel in years. I watched it all the time when it first came on in 2002. It was a very low budget network but they tried their best to put on the best shows so it was filled with energy and enthusiasm. One of my favorite shows was called Icons and it was like a biography show on different aspects of gaming whether it was a specific game or a game designer or even a period in gaming history. When the channel revamped and became what it eventually became shows like this were gone. I was afraid for good. Luckily, some […]
I have a fascination with the birth of the video game and the arcade. I think because I was around for part of it (even though I was a wee one), mainly the early 80’s arcade boom and the Atari craze, that it has a nostalgia thing for me. Also because video games today are such a huge part of our lives that it’s fascinating to see the dawn of it. Back in the early days of the G4 channel there were a lot of great shows. The channel today is, in my opinion, become a little too Mtv in that it has lost some of its original intent. In the beginning, about ten years ago, it was completely video game based and their shows were pretty great. Albeit very low on production value as it was obvious they didn’t have major backing yet. But what they lacked in pizzazz […]
Apparently for the new Legend Of Zelda Wii game there is an included CD featuring music that I’m not sure is in the game or just an added bonus but it’s the original music done by an orchestra. I don’t have a Wii but when I saw this I was floored. Being one of those kids who played the original game when it came out and was blown away by it especially at the time. The game was groundbreaking. So hearing the theme done by an orchestra just brings back memories and is so geek worthy in its awesomeness. Here is the original theme from the game. Next to Pac-Man (sue me) it is well known among people that know me that my all time favorite games have been the Grand Theft Auto games. It’s hard to believe it was ten years ago when Rockstar Games released Grand Theft Auto III. For its anniversary Rockstar released this celebration video of one of the original commercials for it. As if that wasn’t cool enough, they released a tease trailer for the upcoming Grand Theft Auto V!!! You will kiss my free time goodbye when this gets released. I did two fun videos with game footage from GTA III and GTA Vice City a long time ago I will have to post at some point.
