Day Thirty – What is your (or one of) favorite horror movie? THE EXORCIST (1973) d: William Friedkin Granted I would say ‘Dawn Of The Dead’ is my first favorite but a very close second is definitely ‘The Exorcist’. The film that no matter how many times I have seen it over all of these years it still scares me more than anything. In fact, even preparing this blog post was giving me the creeps. The story of a young girl (Linda Blair) getting possessed and her agnostic mother (Ellen Burstyn) turns to doctors for answers for the fear of a mental disorder. But test after test reveals that her problem is not in her brain but her soul as a demon has taken possession. Turning towards an also doubting Church she seeks help from a priest (Jason Miller) having a crisis of faith after the passing of his mother. […]
Day Twenty-Nine – What is a good horror movie for young kids? THE LEGEND OF SLEEPY HOLLOW (1949) d: Clyde Geronimi, Jack Kinney I admit I am changing another question. The original one was what is the worst horror movie and to be quite honest I don’t have an answer nor do I dwell in negativity. If I don’t like something I move on from it. So instead I came up with a different question that I like. Sue me. I wanted to think of one that not a lot of people know about. Disney has produced some creepy stuff for kids. All of it within safe limits which is why this is a good way to introduce the kids to a story with some real creepiness with ‘The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow‘. We all know the story of Ichabod Crane and the Headless Horseman. If not then here’s a […]
Day Twenty-Eight – What is a horror movie you would like to see remade? HALLOWEEN III SEASON OF THE WITCH (1982) d: Tommy Lee Wallace Many people who know me have known for a long time that if I ever got the chance to do a remake that I would remake ‘Halloween III Season Of The Witch’. Now much like many horror fans we all have geeky love for the film. In fact, I’ve been a fan of the film all along. I never needed it to grow on me. I even saw it theatrically when it was released. Once again, how I got my dad to take me to see some of these movies at such a young age I have no idea. The film was maligned for many years as people were angry that a film titled ‘Halloween III’ does not feature Michael Myers. I think most of […]
Day Twenty-Seven – What is your guilty pleasure horror movie? EXORCIST II: THE HERETIC (1977) d: John BoormanI am not one to shy away from what movies I enjoy even if they are the cheesiest or dumbest ones around. If I enjoy a film then I admit it. So this particular question was interesting for me because I couldn’t think of a film that I would consider a guilty pleasure. Even the term is used to describe something that we are almost embarrassed to admit we enjoy. I’m not embarrassed. Well, not completely. There might be one title I almost hate admitting I enjoy and that is ‘Exorcist II: The Heretic’. ‘The Exorcist‘ is one of my favorite films of all time. It is also the film that, no matter how many times I watch it, still scares me and gets under my skin. I love ‘Exorcist III‘ and make […]
Day Twenty-Six – What is a horror movie for a chicken? BURNT OFFERINGS (1976) d: Dan Curtis I admit I wasn’t really sure what they were asking with this one. I assume they mean a horror movie for someone that doesn’t handle them easily. I guess I could have gone with one that was comical but I decided to go with one I think is effective but doesn’t go too far. ‘Burnt Offerings’ is a creepy tale of a family going to rent out a house that is haunted and has a secret. While tame to the average horror fan I think there are so many creepy things in the film. It freaked me out as a kid so I think it would be still be scary for a non-horror fan but not so far as to have them hate you for life for recommending it. So my pick for […]
Day Twenty-Five – What is your favorite Christmas/holiday horror movie? GREMLINS (1984) d: Joe Dante This was an interesting one. I was leaning towards ‘Black Christmas’ but I think the idea of it being Christmas time works better in ‘Gremlins’. Not taking anything away from ‘Black Christmas’ which is amazing but I admit when I think Christmas movies (specifically horror) I think of ‘Gremlins’ and usually do watch it around Christmas time. In fact, last year I was lucky enough to see it on the big screen a week out from Christmas. Featuring some really fantastic effects from Chris Wallas of the gremlins to the always great direction of Joe Dante plus an absolutely incredible score by one of cinemas greatest composers Jerry Goldsmith this film is just so much fun and one I have loved since I was a kid. Easily my pick for my favorite Christmas horror movie.
Day Twenty-Four – What is a horror movie character that describes you? Arnie from – CHRISTINE (1983) d: John Carpenter This one is an interesting question. On the one hand there could be several options and then on the other there can be none. I can’t say specifically outright there is a character that describes me. But on the other hand there are ones that on some level can. Which is why I chose Arnie from ‘Christine’. I was never the nerdy kid nor was I picked on. I mean, we were all picked on at some point but I was never constantly tormented. I did always feel like a bit of an outsider. At times a loner though I did always have friends. It’s more the feeling like you don’t always belong. A key moment for me actually takes place early on in the film when Arnie refers to […]
